Olbia information
Olbia is located in northeastern Sardinia region (Italy), in the middle of the Mediterranean sea and thence Olbia is the ideal base for vacations to Costa Smeralda (Emerald Coast) and daily excursions to the many nearby attractions.

You may start your Olbia city tour visiting the San Simplicio church, erected in Roman style between the XI and XII centuries. The Umbertino palace (Palazzotto Umbertino), erected during the XIX century, hosts the Civic Museum (Museo Civico) where archaeological findings belonging to Nuragic civilization (from Sardinia, during the Bronze Age until II century A.D.) are stored.

But the real wonders that this corner of Sardinia offers, await for you just a few minutes drive from Olbia city center. The Emerald Coast (Costa Smeralda) is famous worldwide for the beautiful fine white sand beaches and crystalline waters, that cannot be found elsewhere in Italy and in the Mediterranean sea. The Emerald coast stretches for about 55 kilometers and offers many luxury resorts often located along small bays, having very secluded beaches. Just off the Emerald Coast there is the Maddalena archipelago, a group of small islands designed as National Park and particularly loved by boaters sometimes reaching these islands aboard luxury yachts. Closer to Olbia city center there are additional historical attractions, interesting not only for the cultural aspect, but also for the beautiful surrounding landscape: the Pedres castle (Castello di Pedres) dominates the entire southern part of Olbia Valley, although it is built over a rocky hill just 89 meters tall, and was built centuries XII-XIII to guard the city. The Sa Paulazza castle comes instead from Byzantine / high medieval period and dominates, from an altitude of 234 meters, the entire Olbia gulf and valley.
