Cagliari is located in southern Sardinia island and is the gateway access to some of the most spectacular places in the Mediterranean sea.

Cagliari has an interesting history, as the area was inhabited since very ancient times, testified by the many archaeological sites like the Necropolis of Tuvixeddu, belonging to Phoenicia's period dated about 500 years B.C. More recent archaeological sites includes the well preserved roman amphitheater, built by carving an enormous block of lime-stone rock, as well as an amazing ancient aqueduct and water reservoirs system (particularly important, as the rain in Cagliari is scarce and there aren't important rivers near the city). The old part of the city, called "Castello" and meaning "castle" in Italian, is built on the top of an hill offering a spectacular view down onto the gulf along which the modern city lies, but offers also a very well preserved city walls coming from 13th century, as well as the main Cagliari cathedral, restored during the last century and having a facade very similar to that found on Pisa cathedral. Additional monuments which worth a visit include the Basilica of San Saturnino, The Chiesa della Purissima (a church from the 16th century), the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Bonaria and much more, not to mention the numerous museums.
